Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 23-September-2026
Last Updated: 23-September-2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to NotSus ('we,' 'our,' or 'us'). We are committed to protecting the privacy of children, parents, and guardians who use our educational browsing platform.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in compliance with:

  • British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)
  • Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
  • Principles similar to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

By using our app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide a safe and effective learning experience.

(a) Account Information
  • Your name and email address (the parent or guardian)
  • Sign-in details, which are handled by Amazon Web Services
  • Each child's display name, username and PIN
(b) Usage & Activity Data
  • Websites visited through our safe browsing environment
  • Time spent on those websites, and the daily time used
  • Websites that were blocked, including words typed into a search box
  • Websites your child asked to open
  • Goals, projects and notes your child saves
  • Feedback you send us

We keep a record of the sites your child opened and the time they spent, so we can show it to you on your parent page and so time limits work. The NotSus apps, on the computer and on tablets, contain no advertising software and no analytics software, and we do not track your family across other apps or websites. This website, notsus.net, uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. That is the website only, and it is not connected to your child's account or to anything they do in the app.

(c) Device & Technical Data
  • Browser user agent, which tells us the device type and operating system

If the desktop app crashes, the crash report includes an IP address, so we can tell devices apart while fixing the problem. The iPad and Android apps do not send crash reports.

(d) Payment Information
  • Apple or Google takes the payment for subscriptions bought inside the iPad and Android apps
  • Stripe takes the payment for subscriptions bought on notsus.net
  • We do not store credit card numbers or financial details

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone input, or health data.

3. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information to:

  • Operate and maintain user accounts
  • Provide the parent page, with activity reports and time limits
  • Monitor and filter online content for safety
  • Improve user experience and system performance
  • Process subscriptions and payments
  • Communicate important updates, security notices, or feature changes

4. Children's Privacy

We take special care to protect children's data:

  • A parent or guardian creates the NotSus account and sets up a profile for each child. Children do not create their own accounts.
  • Parents can view, manage, or delete their child's data through the parental dashboard or by contacting us.
  • We do not display or share children's personal data publicly.

5. Parental Control & Consent

Parents/guardians can:

  • Review their child's activity reports
  • Update, correct, or delete account information
  • Withdraw consent and request account deletion at any time

You can delete your NotSus account yourself, in the app: open the profile menu, choose Settings, and use "Delete my account" on your own tab. It asks you to confirm, and it needs your parent PIN. Deleting removes your account, your children's accounts, and everything saved in them. It cannot be undone.

You can also make any of these requests by writing to: contact@notsus.net

6. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell or rent personal information.

We may share limited data only when necessary:

  • With service providers who work for us, under contract, and may not use your family's information for anything of their own: Render (hosting and the database), Amazon Web Services (sign-in), Stripe (payments made on notsus.net), and RevenueCat (managing subscriptions bought inside the apps)
  • With Apple and Google, when you buy a subscription inside the iPad or Android app. They take that payment under their own privacy policies, and we do not receive your card number
  • When required by law enforcement or regulatory authorities

Each third-party site has its own Privacy Policy. We recommend parents review these separately.

7. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information from unauthorized access or misuse.

Examples include:

  • Encryption of transmitted data
  • Password hashing
  • Limited employee access to personal data

NotSus is run from British Columbia. Our server and database are hosted in the United States, in Oregon, and sign-in is handled by Amazon Web Services. If you use NotSus from anywhere else, your family's information is processed in those countries.

No system is 100% secure, but we follow industry standards to protect your data.

8. Data Retention

We keep your family's information while your account exists, except for three things we delete on a schedule:

  • Blocked sites, including anything typed into a search box: 90 days.
  • Crash reports: 90 days.
  • The record of which project pages were opened: 30 days.

Your children's goals, projects, notes, activity and time used are not deleted on a schedule. When you delete your account, we delete it, your children's accounts, and the information in them, straight away. Ordinary server logs may hold a record of the request for a short time afterwards.

9. Your Rights

Under PIPA and PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request corrections
  • Withdraw consent
  • Request deletion of your or your child's data

Requests can be sent to: contact@notsus.net

10. Third-Party Websites

Our app provides access to external educational sites. These are operated independently and have their own privacy practices.

We are not responsible for content or privacy policies of those third-party websites.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

If changes are significant, we will notify users via email or in-app notice before they take effect.
